The goal of this project was to provide some relief from the elements when entering the front door of this home. To keep expenses to a minimum, it was decided to leverage the existing footprint of the stoop. The roof design, however, was somewhat of a challenge. On the surface, a gable style roof would make a lot of sense and match the upper gable feature two stories above. However, the large Palladian window above the entry door took away the ability to achieve the same roof pitch as the upper gabled feature. Simply flattening the roof pitch some would have been architecturally irresponsible so, instead, we create an innovated curved roof design that matched the radius of the Palladian window above. The end result was a rather unique front entry portico that created a tasteful differentiation from the nearby homes.
