Gary became fascinated with carpentry and woodworking in high school, but made the difficult decision up entering college to pursue a career in computer science rather than architecture. Despite spending most weekends in his workshop or building his family’s boat house and retreat at Smith Mountain Lake, Gary stayed the course and graduated with a BS in Computer Science from Virginia Tech. After 13 successful years as a technical architect and systems consulting in the DC area, Gary decided to pursue his passion for remodeling with a focus on consumer-friendly consultation and management.
With years of hands-on construction and remodeling experience under his belt, Gary combined his love for construction with his years of delivering creative solutions in the IT world to create a much-needed commodity in the remodeling industry. He founded Deep Run Renovations with a focus on responsiveness, quality, and the overall ability to deliver. In general, the more challenging a project, the more interested Gary is in undertaking it.
Gary and his wife, Tamara, stay busy with four children and all the typical activities that come along with that. Their home is a remodeling case study in itself with a breakfast room addition, a remodeled kitchen, a second-story master bath and suite addition, a large front porch, all new windows, siding, and roofing, and a new composite deck and screened porch. Gary enjoys initiating projects on his own home since it allows him to work with additional staff and contractors first-hand before sending them out to work on someone else’s home. Gary firmly believes that no person should be sent to work in someone else’s home until he has had an opportunity to review their work, communication skills, and general demeanor…under his own roof.
His mission for Deep Run Renovations is to impart the same customer-oriented mentality and product creativity that he employed in information technology to the world of remodeling.
